Certified MRO Services for our Consortium Clients

An MRO is a licensed medical doctor with special training in substance abuse testing. This is an important part of an effective DOT drug testing program. Using a DOT-certified MRO helps to protect both the employer and the employees by providing accurate positive drug screen results.

What Does a Medical Review Officer Do?

When a DOT lab test is ordered, the MRO reviews the lab results to make sure the correct test panel was performed and that the correct procedures were followed by the collector. When a drug test is reported positive, the MRO also contacts the employee to determine if there is a legitimate medical explanation for the positive result. If there is not a valid medical explanation for the result, the MRO reports the result to the employer.

Why DOT-Certified MRO Services Matter

Using an MRO to review and interpret the laboratory results protects the employer from having to make decisions regarding an employee’s claims. It also keeps the employer from having to deal with the release or disclosure of private employee medical information. It is required for every DOT drug test to be reviewed by an MRO. Non-DOT employers may utilize the services of an MRO even if it is not required.

How Our MRO Integrates with Our Consortium

All of our consortium clients can utilize our MRO services. This is a service we provide inside our program so you do not have to enroll in it separately.
